Holdfast Magazine releases once annually. Call for Submissions opens each year in late summer/early fall for the next year's volume. Decisions on submitted work are sent by early winter. Everyone who submits to the Holdfast Call for Submissions will receive an answer via email on a final decision.

Call for Submissions - Holdfast Magazine 2027 "Monterey in Pink"

Holdfast Magazine is now accepting submissions for the 2027 volume: ‘Monterey in Pink’.

​

• Submission Period: August 1st - September 30th, 2026

• Notification of Submission Decision: On or before November 1st 2026

• Submissions Accepted: Any visual art which can be displayed in print format, written pieces/articles (fiction or non-fiction), puzzles, or any format that can be displayed in a magazine. If you’re unsure, please reach out.

Specific categories Holdfast Magazine is looking for:

 

• Featured Articles: more substantial written centerpieces that tell a story

  • Environmental-focused stories

  • Interviews and local histories

• Featured Photography

  • For covers and throughout the magazine

  • Highlight on the works of specific artists

• Non-Photography Art & Crafting

  • Process articles with photos, Highlights of hand-crafted work + its inspiration

• Short Prose articles and mini-features

  • Highlights on local creatives, recent exhibitions, or work in the community

• And more! You are not limited to the above options.

General Submission Information:

 

• You retain all rights to your work. Holdfast Magazine is a community collective and does not pay for submissions.

• Holdfast Magazine is centered on life +art in the Monterey area. Submissions should be relevant to Monterey and/or our corner of the Pacific Ocean. This can be as simple as your piece focuses on Monterey or because you live in this area. Being a part of this community is key.

• Newbies & experienced individuals all welcome!

• Your submission should align with the theme ‘Monterey in Pink’. Get creative!

• Holdfast Magazine has the final say on which submissions are accepted. The editor will work with you on accepted submissions to best display your work and make edits as necessary.

• Submissions created using generative AI tools will not be accepted. Holdfast celebrates the creation of people, not generative AI.

About the Theme ‘Monterey in Pink’

 

MONTEREY IN PINK means shades of pink: everything visually between red and orange and purple, rose-tinted (physically or metaphorically), the metaphorical connotations of pink such as healing, love, and more! Be creative. Your piece doesn’t have to be completely pink, but the focus or philosphy of it should be pink.

 

MONTEREY IN PINK is a challenge for photographers, artists, writers, and creatives to explore Monterey from a different view than we regularly see our corner of the Pacific Ocean. Pink is a great contrast to the typical blues and greens of the ocean, also.
